"About 50% of our customer contacts were made through networking with the SCMBDC over the years. Companies such as American Honda, Toyota, ARCO, Northrop, Verizon, Pac Bell, and Raytheon... SCMBDC has been a great help when I needed to get to the ‘right person.’ Their referrals have opened many doors for me as a salesperson."

Organization Overview

Southern California Minority Business Development Council (SCMBDC) is comprised of three components: The president and council staff; the chairperson and board of directors, and board committees whose chairpersons serve as the board's executive committee.

Board Committees include:

  • Events Committee
  • Executive Committee
  • Finance Committee
  • Minority Business Enterprise Input Committee
  • Supplier Programs/Corporate Programs Committee

Minority Business Enterprise Input Committee
As liaison between member corporations and the minority business community at large, the Minority Business Enterprise Input Committee (MBEIC) was created to provide feedback from minority businesses to board members on the effectiveness of SCMBDC programs and activities.

MBEIC operates as the unofficial "auditor" of all SCMBDC functions, programs and events as they relate to council and member corporations’ performance in achieving the SCMBDC’s mission.

The committee invites all certified minority businesses to its quarterly meetings to discuss issues affecting the minority business community. These meetings also serve as a forum for bringing new initiatives to the board’s attention.

To ensure representation and input from minority businesses, the chair of this committee serves on the board as a voting member and attends National Minority Supplier Development Council’s (NMSDC) quarterly meetings.
