Joycelyn Nery Director of Marketing & Sales Southern California Minority Business Development Council, Inc.

Joycelyn Nery began her employment at SCMBDC as a student intern in July 2003. During her internship, she was assigned tasks that included the certification function, marketing analyses, and client-services written communications. She was also involved in the development of the MBE Health Insurance program, now a core competency for the council.

Upon receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, with an emphasis in Management & Human Resources in 2004, from Cal Poly Pomona, SCMBDC offered and she accepted a full-time position as Manager of Programs. As Manager of Programs, she increased the number of professional development programs by more than 50%. In September 2004, she was promoted to Director of Programs.

Among her many responsibilities, Ms. Nery managed and directed the Programs Coordinator position and programs-related functions, and played a significant role in the development of other Council programs, including The USC Marshall Business Consulting Program targeting MBEs whose headquarters are in proximity of the USC campus; and in the facilitation & development of the Council’s Capacity Building Initiative, which has become a best practice program for supplier diversity and supply chain and has increased capacity for minority-owned businesses.

After receiving her Life Agent Broker’s License in December 2006, she is credited with the strategic growth of the Council’s MBE Health Insurance Program. She now has enrolled over 1400 policy holders. Due to the increased success of the Health Insurance Program, Ms. Nery is now the Director of Marketing & Sales.
