Executive Vice President, Marketing and Public Relations
Chief Marketing Officer

Dr. Charles Steinberg, the Dodgers’ new Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, was hired for his skill to create an upbeat atmosphere where families connect and lasting memories are made through the love for baseball.   Among other responsibilities, Dr. Steinberg will direct the club’s communications, both internally and externally, focus on making fans’ experience at the game memorable; and build good will and fan relationships in the community.

Passionate about and committed to instituting kid-centric baseball activities, Dr. Steinberg envisions baseball as a bond to unite generations.  Staging pregame autograph sessions with former Dodgers, having former Dodger greats walk out to their old positions in the opening day ceremony, facilitating fans watching batting practice prior to a game, establishing a corps of Dodgers ambassadors, selecting kids to announce “It’s time for Dodger baseball’ are only a few approaches Dr. Steinberg has initiated to create excitement and enthusiasm at baseball games.

Before the Dodgers, Dr. Steinberg served six seasons with the Boston Red Sox as Executive Vice President/Public Affairs, seven with the San Diego Padres, and 19 seasons with the Baltimore Orioles.

With the Red Sox, he was a creative force in the franchise’s fan-friendly attitude, warm hospitality, and ceremonies, special events, and marketing.   The fans’ association of happy occasions with the club and the Red Sox’ passionate fan loyalty are the major consequences of Dr. Steinberg’s staging and creating special events such as Father’s Day catches, Mother’s Day walks, club ambassadors programs, and annual Boston middle school college scholarships, the Red Sox Children’s Retreats at the Ron Burton Training Village, among others.   Such events also were major factors in stimulating the club’s consecutive-game sellout streak in 2002-2003, and in saving the venerable Fenway Park.

With the Padres, Steinberg had similar responsibilities.  There, he contributed to San Diego’s successful campaign to build PetCo Park, and created the Padres Scholars, a scholarship program now with more than 300 students, many of whom are now college graduates.

It was at age 17, as an intern with the Baltimore Orioles when Dr. Steinberg’s love for baseball became a lasting commitment.  His passion for the game, however, did not deter his practical side from earning his undergraduate degree at the University of Maryland, and his doctorate from Maryland’s dental school, in case baseball didn’t work out.  He later assumed the role of team dentist with the Orioles’, and in 1982, became a founding and charter member of the Academy for Sports Dentistry.

Multi-talented and a 24/7 workaholic, among his many interests, he is an amateur musician and songwriter, and performed “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” on the Fenway Park organ during Jimmy Buffett’s concert in 2004; is an Emmy Award winner for his television production of the story of the 1998 National League Champion Padres, and a Telly Award winner for a video of the 1989 Orioles.   In 1985, Dr. Steinberg developed the Oriole club’s first video production department, then its first customer service department in 1993, and later headed its first public relations department.

Dr. Steinberg is single and resides in the Los Angeles area.
